Bramble Energy's POWER Project Revolutionizing Hydrogen Production
Key Ideas
  • Co-funded by Innovate UK and Taiwan’s Department of Industrial Technology, the POWER project aims to develop the Printed Circuit Board AEM electrolyser for efficient hydrogen production.
  • Key milestones include successful demonstration of the technology in a 25kW stack, meeting Clean Hydrogen Partnership’s 2030 targets.
  • By leveraging PCB supply chain, the project aims to lower AEM electrolyser stack costs, improve durability, and operational flexibility.
  • Dr Tom Mason, CEO of Bramble Energy, highlights the project's commitment to affordability, sustainability, and propelling hydrogen technology for large-scale commercialization.
The POWER project, funded by Innovate UK and Taiwan’s Department of Industrial Technology, is set to revolutionize hydrogen production with the development of the Printed Circuit Board AEM electrolyser. Bramble Energy, the driving force behind the project, has already achieved significant milestones by successfully demonstrating the technology in a 25kW stack operating on a potassium hydroxide solution. The project aims to refine the PCBEL cell and stack design, integrate catalysts, and develop membrane electrode assemblies to further enhance the technology's cost-effectiveness and performance. The project's significance lies in its ability to lower the costs of AEM electrolyser stacks by utilizing the high-volume, low-cost printed circuit board supply chain, resulting in a highly competitive industry-leading cost of $200/kW for AEM stacks. Dr Tom Mason, the CEO of Bramble Energy, emphasized that the project is not just about technological advancement but also about affordability, sustainability, and pushing the boundaries of cost, performance, and durability. The ultimate goal is to offer a low-cost, scalable, and reduced precious-metal solution for hydrogen production, driving the transition to a clean energy future. The POWER project positions Bramble Energy and its partners at the forefront of the next-generation AEM electrolyser market, paving the way for a resilient and sustainable energy infrastructure to meet future demands. Dr Mason believes that the project will be a game-changer for the entire hydrogen economy, marking an exciting turning point towards a cleaner energy future.
