Climate Fund Managers (CFM) has launched the Climate Investor Three (CI3) fund with an initial capital commitment of €150 million to accelerate green hydrogen and energy transition projects in emerging markets. The fund operates on a blended finance approach, attracting both public and private investors to advance large-scale climate initiatives. CI3 is strategically focusing on Namibia and South Africa, where dedicated funds, such as SDG Namibia One and SA-H2 Fund, aim to leverage local renewable resources for global decarbonization. Green hydrogen, produced through water electrolysis using renewable energy, is crucial for decarbonizing challenging sectors like transport and industrial production. Key players like Invest International, Sanlam Limited, the Development Bank of Southern Africa, and the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa are supporting the funds to drive the energy transition projects in South Africa and boost Namibia's green hydrogen sector. The partnership aims to overcome technological challenges and scale up production and export of green hydrogen. The launch of CI3 demonstrates a strong commitment to transforming emerging markets into global green hydrogen leaders, aligning with climate goals and promoting economic development through a strategic blend of public and private investments. The collaboration between European donors, CFM, and local entities signals a significant step towards sustainable growth and climate resilience in Namibia and South Africa.
