H2V's Ambitious Hydrogen Project in Moselle: Creating Green Energy and Jobs
Key Ideas
  • H2V, a subsidiary of Samfi Invest, plans to build a green hydrogen gigafactory in Thionville-Illange to produce 30,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and 150,000 tonnes of e-methanol by 2030.
  • The project, estimated at €800m, aims to prevent the emission of 160 tonnes of CO2 annually and create 140 jobs, including 80 direct jobs in the region.
  • The hydrogen plant will be powered by renewable electricity, cover 31 hectares, operate 8,000 hours a year, and be classified as Seveso for risk management.
  • A public consultation, ongoing from April to June, allows citizens to share opinions and learn about the environmental and economic impacts of the project through various themed meetings and workshops.
French company H2V, a subsidiary of Samfi Invest, is embarking on an ambitious green hydrogen project in Thionville-Illange, Moselle. The project aims to establish a green hydrogen gigafactory to produce 30,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and 150,000 tonnes of e-methanol by 2030, contributing to the decarbonization of sea and air transport. The €800m project is expected to create 140 jobs, including 80 direct jobs, and prevent the emission of 160 tonnes of CO2 annually. To facilitate this, the plant will be constructed on the E-Log’in 4 platform, formerly industrial wasteland, covering 31 hectares and strategically located near industrial sites. The plant will operate on renewable electricity, connected to the grid with a 225,000-volt underground link to Uckange. A hazard study will be conducted due to its Seveso classification. A public consultation, running from April to June, allows citizens to participate in themed meetings and workshops to discuss the project's environmental and economic impacts.
