During the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2024 Energy Ministers' Meeting in Lima, Japan expressed keen interest in investing in Malaysia's energy sector, particularly focusing on the green hydrogen industry. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof shared that Japan's Vice Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Nobuhiro Yoshida, committed to supporting investments in Sarawak and requested collaboration from Malaysia. Discussions with Singapore and Brunei highlighted their interest in energy procurement from Malaysia, while Vietnam aimed to collaborate on halal certificates development. Fadillah stressed the importance of public-private partnerships (PPP) in driving a sustainable energy transition, citing successful Malaysian initiatives like the Net Energy Metering Programme and the Large Scale Solar Programme as potential models for APEC. Emphasizing the need for a supportive regulatory environment, stability for investors, and fostering innovation ecosystems, Malaysia aims to accelerate clean energy solutions in the region.
