Dutch storage solutions provider LBC Tank Terminals has finalized the acquisition of Evolution Terminals in Vlissingen, with plans to transform the site into a hub for sustainable energy products as part of the energy transition. The initiative aligns with North Sea Port's objectives and the previous proposal by Evolution Terminals for a tank terminal for renewable energy products. The new terminal in Vlissingen will facilitate the storage of green hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, biofuels, and CO2, supporting the transition towards sustainable energy sources. It will feature a capacity of 150,000 cubic meters, two sea vessel berths, three inland vessel berths, and connections to rail and pipeline networks, with operations expected to begin by the end of 2028. The project aims to strengthen North Sea Port's position in Vlissingen, contributing to the region's sustainable product production and distribution while working towards climate neutrality by 2050. The CEO of LBC highlighted the investment's significance in fostering a greener future for the Netherlands and Northwest Europe. Additionally, the Chief Sustainability and Digital Officer of North Sea Port emphasized the role of the new terminal in expanding the hydrogen network in the Netherlands and Belgium, positioning North Sea Port as a prominent hydrogen hub in the Benelux region. This project marks a positive step towards enhancing sustainable energy infrastructure and promoting the use of low-carbon hydrogen in the energy transition.
