NHPC Ltd, India's largest hydropower company, is set to invest Rs 5,500 crore in a 1,000-megawatt solar power project in Bihar. The chairman and managing director, Raj Kumar Chaudhary, announced the investment during the Bihar Business Connect 2024 investor summit in Patna. NHPC aims to complete the solar project within 1.5-2 years after land acquisition, emphasizing the importance of timely land acquisition for solar projects. In addition to the solar project, NHPC is planning to establish a small solar plant to produce green hydrogen, which will be used to power passenger buses. The initiative to promote green hydrogen aligns with the government's focus on clean energy sources. NHPC's green hydrogen-powered bus will be financed by the company and provided to the state government for operation. NHPC has similar projects in Gujarat and other states and plans to expand the green hydrogen initiative as more solar power is generated. The production of green hydrogen, known for its zero carbon emissions, is a significant step towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions.
