Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla met with UAE's Minister of Energy and Infrastructure to negotiate a memorandum of cooperation outlining potential collaboration activities. The discussions emphasized attracting Emirati investments in clean energy infrastructure, including renewable energy and hydrogen. The Philippines is actively exploring hydrogen as an alternative fuel, leveraging its geological environments conducive to hydrogen formation. Additionally, the government is advancing legislation to ensure the safe development of nuclear energy and considering small modular reactors for areas with low electricity demand. The DOE expressed gratitude to various entities for their support in facilitating this mission, highlighting the importance of diplomatic and trade support in energy collaborations.
