Rompetrol Rafinare, a member of the KMG International Group, has made substantial advancements in refinery operations by integrating two cutting-edge reactors at the Petromidia refinery in Romania. These reactors, standing at 33 meters in height and weighing 285 tons each, have been meticulously engineered to operate at high temperatures and pressures in the presence of hydrogen. The investment of $16 million in these reactors, part of a recent general turnaround, aims to enhance the processing capabilities of the Middle Distillate Hydrotreating unit, focusing on diesel mixtures to eliminate sulfur compounds and achieve EURO 5 diesel standards. The successful installation of these reactors by the Comes company and Industrial Montaj marks a pivotal moment in the refinery's modernization journey. With a total investment of $85 million in various modernization projects, including reactor upgrades, Petromidia refinery is at the forefront of advancing Romania's refining industry. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, Petromidia processed over 943 thousand tons of raw materials, predominantly sourced from Kazakhstan. Furthermore, Rompetrol Rafinare's significant contribution of over $300 million to Romania's state budget underscores its crucial role in the country's economic landscape, solidifying its position as a key financial stakeholder.
