Costain, an infrastructure solutions company, has been awarded a substantial front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract by bp for a new hydrogen pipeline network in Teesside, UK. The project involves constructing a 31km onshore pipeline distribution network to transport purified and dehydrated hydrogen from bp's upcoming hydrogen production facility to industrial end users. This initiative is part of the East Coast Cluster, known as H2Teesside (H2T), which aims to become one of the largest blue hydrogen production sites in the UK, generating 160,000 tonnes of low carbon hydrogen annually. The objective is to displace natural gas consumption among industrial users, facilitating regional decarbonisation. Costain's completion of the FEED for the onshore CO2 pipeline earlier has led to its selection by bp to manage the next stages of the project.
