Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases (CE&IG) Group and SunLine Transit Agency have celebrated the launch of a new liquid-hydrogen-based fueling station in Thousand Palms, California. This marks a significant development in advancing California's hydrogen infrastructure, offering a cleaner and more efficient fueling solution to the region. The station is initially capable of fueling SunLine's existing fleet of 32 hydrogen fuel cell buses, with plans for further expansion as more vehicles transition to zero emissions technology. The collaboration between Nikkiso and SunLine demonstrates a shared commitment to promoting the hydrogen economy in California. Nikkiso's expertise and state-of-the-art equipment have set a high standard for modern hydrogen fueling stations, serving as a model for other transit hubs looking to incorporate hydrogen fueling options. The hydrogen station's operational efficiency is highlighted by its 24/7 fueling capability, dual-hose dispensers meeting H35 and H70 protocols, and quick refueling time of under 10 minutes per bus. The facility also allows for unlimited back-to-back fueling, ensuring SunLine's buses in the Coachella Valley region can maintain their schedules effectively. SunLine's CEO/general manager, Mona Babauta, emphasized the agency's dedication to providing zero-emission transportation to its three million annual passengers. The new hydrogen fueling station plays a crucial role in SunLine's goal to convert its entire fleet to hydrogen fuel cell buses, benefiting customers, the community, and the environment.
