Advancing Green Hydrogen Production in Rotterdam with Zeevonk Project
Key Ideas
  • Wood has been awarded the front-end engineering design for the Zeevonk hydrogen facility in Rotterdam, which will be powered by offshore wind and solar.
  • The Zeevonk project, a joint venture between Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, aims to contribute to Vattenfall's net-zero emissions goals and Europe's 2050 net-zero emissions target.
  • The hydrogen produced at the facility will be transported to the Hydrogen Network Rotterdam, advancing the Dutch hydrogen infrastructure in the Port of Rotterdam.
  • Wood's expertise in green hydrogen projects and commitment to low-carbon solutions underpin the development of the Zeevonk project and contribute to the global energy transition.
Wood, a global consulting and engineering leader, has been chosen to lead the front-end engineering design for the Zeevonk hydrogen facility in Rotterdam, Netherlands. This innovative project, a collaboration between Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, will utilize offshore wind and floating offshore solar to power the hydrogen plant. The initiative aligns with Vattenfall's net-zero emissions goals and supports Europe's ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Once operational, the hydrogen produced will be transferred to the Hydrogen Network Rotterdam, marking a significant development in the Dutch hydrogen infrastructure based in the energy hub of the Port of Rotterdam. Wood's President of Projects Eastern Hemisphere highlighted the company's expertise in large-scale green hydrogen projects, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in the global energy transition. The Zeevonk project's Project Director expressed excitement about the collaboration with Wood and the upcoming stages of the project, including detailed cost estimations and the EPC tender process. This project represents Wood's continued involvement in transformative green energy projects, including their work on Europe's largest battery storage unit and as the engineering services provider for a green hydrogen project in Spain.
