Air Liquide and TotalEnergies have joined forces for a renewable hydrogen production project at La Mède, France, to cater to the biorefinery's hydrogen needs. The project involves the construction and operation of a new hydrogen production unit with a capacity of 25,000 tonnes per year. This unit will utilize recycled biogenic by-products to produce renewable hydrogen, supporting the decarbonization of the biorefinery and reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 130,000 tonnes annually. With an investment exceeding 80 million euros, the project is set to commence operations in 2028, significantly contributing to the region's renewable hydrogen ecosystem. Air Liquide's long-term commitment to offering decarbonization solutions is exemplified by this initiative, which reinforces its position in the Fos-sur-Mer area. The partnership not only supports TotalEnergies' decarbonization goals but also aligns with Air Liquide's strategic objective of providing a range of decarbonization solutions, including CO₂ capture and low-carbon hydrogen.
