The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has released its Annual Report for 2023-24, highlighting a successful year of progress in accelerating Australia's transition to net zero emissions. ARENA significantly increased its funding commitment to $392.5 million, marking a substantial rise from the previous year, and doubled the number of projects to 72. The agency's focus on innovative projects is evident through its support for renewable hydrogen and low emissions iron & steel initiatives, with $59.1 million allocated to 21 research projects. This funding reflects ARENA's commitment to advancing clean energy technologies and driving the energy transition. Furthermore, ARENA introduced new Programs and funding rounds in 2023-24, including the Hydrogen Headstart Round 1 with $2 billion, Solar Sunshot with $1 billion, and other initiatives aimed at fostering innovation and sustainability. The agency's partnership with industry, regulators, investors, and innovators has been crucial in maximizing the benefits of renewable energy for consumers and the economy. ARENA's role as the delivery agency for various funding programs, such as Hydrogen Headstart Round 2 and the Future Made in Australia Innovation fund, positions it well to continue supporting Australia's energy transition and climate goals. Since its establishment in 2012, ARENA has played a key role in supporting 735 projects with $2.61 billion in grant funding, attracting substantial investments to Australia's renewable energy sector.
