STEF Group Implements Cutting-Edge Hydrogen Forklift Solutions in France and Spain
Key Ideas
- STEF Group collaborates with Toyota Material Handling Europe and Plug Power to introduce hydrogen-powered forklifts in two cold storage distribution centers in France and Spain.
- The projects involve using green hydrogen in France and on-site hydrogen production in Spain, showcasing advancements in sustainable logistics.
- The hydrogen fuel cell forklifts offer benefits like quick refueling, improved performance in cold conditions, and enhanced safety compared to traditional lead-acid batteries.
- Plug Power's GenKey ecosystem will provide fuel cells, GenFuel infrastructure, green hydrogen supply, and continuous service for the locations.
STEF Group, a prominent European leader in temperature-controlled food logistics, has launched two hydrogen projects in partnership with Toyota Material Handling Europe and Plug Power in France and Spain. The projects aim to introduce hydrogen-powered forklifts at cold storage facilities in Athis-Mons, France, and Torrejón de Ardoz, Spain. The French site receives green hydrogen deliveries, while the Spanish facility produces hydrogen on-site using solar power. A total of 48 forklifts will be implemented in Athis-Mons and 67 in Torrejón de Ardoz.
The hydrogen fuel cell forklifts present various advantages such as quick refueling in under 3 minutes, enhanced performance in cold temperatures, a 10-year fuel cell lifespan, and reduced accident risks compared to lead-acid batteries. Plug Power will supply its comprehensive GenKey ecosystem, including fuel cells, GenFuel infrastructure, green hydrogen, and ongoing service for both locations. This initiative represents a significant step towards sustainable logistics and highlights the potential of hydrogen technology in the food industry supply chain.
