Ashoka Buildcon, a Maharashtra-based construction engineering firm, announced its ambitious plan to invest INR 9,000 crore in establishing a green hydrogen plant in Bihar. The company's COO of Renewable Energy, Mayank Sharma, unveiled this initiative at the Bihar Business Connect 2024 event. The project will be accompanied by a 1,250 MW solar project to facilitate the production of green hydrogen through water electrolysis. The first phase of the plant, scheduled to be located in Begusarai, is targeted to be operational within 1.5-2 years post obtaining all required approvals, with subsequent phases to follow suit. Ashoka Buildcon, known for its engagements in highway construction, power distribution, and solar ventures, holds an order book worth INR 11,697 crore as of March 2024. Furthermore, Bihar has witnessed a surge in investment proposals totaling INR 1.81 lakh crore across various sectors, with renewable energy attracting significant attention. The state has garnered proposals worth INR 90,734 crore specifically for 17 units in the renewable energy domain. Noteworthy projects by Ashoka Buildcon include a major contract for a Navi Mumbai International Airport link road and the successful completion of a 150 MW solar power plant for NTPC in Rajasthan. This strategic investment is expected to drive economic growth and promote sustainable energy practices in the region.
