Avalon BioEnergy Uruguay S.A., a subsidiary of Avalon Energy Group LLC, has launched its first Agriculture-Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) biorefinery in Uruguay, backed by the Uruguayan government. This project aims to significantly reduce emissions from air travel by integrating green hydrogen production through solar-powered electrolysis and cultivating non-edible oil seed crops for a sustainable feedstock supply chain. The SAF facility, with a projected cost of $380 million, will produce 100,000 MT per year using the Hydrotreated Esters and Fatty Acids process, alongside a 50 MW solar power plant for green hydrogen. Prismecs, an EPC company based in Houston, Texas, has been selected to build the green hydrogen plant. The project has received praise for its potential to drive sustainable development and innovation in Uruguay, aligning with climate goals and promoting clean energy solutions. Additionally, the project sets a precedent for sustainable aviation fuel production in Latin America, with positive economic and environmental impacts.
