Abraxas Power Corp. and its subsidiary Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC) have announced the pre-certification of their EVREC project for green hydrogen and ammonia production in Newfoundland. EVREC's achievement of pre-certification under the Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) scheme by the European Commission demonstrates a commitment to sustainable energy solutions and leadership in the global shift towards a low-carbon future. The project, located in central Newfoundland, is set to generate over 3 GW of wind and solar energy, producing 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen and 1 million tonnes of green ammonia annually. The certification process, supported by Hinicio and Bureau Veritas, ensures compliance with the European Renewable Energy Directive (RED II), positioning EVREC as a key player in the green energy sector. This milestone is expected to have a significant economic impact, with a projected CAD $12 billion investment, job creation, and GDP growth in Newfoundland and Labrador.
