Canadian Investment in EverWind's Green Fuels Hub in Nova Scotia
Key Ideas
  • EverWind Fuels secures $22.5 million funding from the Canadian government for green hydrogen and ammonia project at Point Tupper terminal in Nova Scotia.
  • The project aims to establish a green fuels hub using PEM electrolyzers and ammonia synthesis technology, supported by newly-built wind farms.
  • Infrastructure development at the terminal includes enhancements for green fuel handling and the installation of green ammonia loading arm and supply pipelines.
  • The investment is seen as a step towards decarbonization of the marine sector and positioning Nova Scotia as a leader in sustainable energy development.
EverWind Fuels, a North American developer of green hydrogen projects, has received $22.5 million in funding from the Canadian government to establish a green hydrogen and ammonia project at its Point Tupper terminal in Nova Scotia. This funding is part of Transport Canada's Green Shipping Corridor Fund, aimed at decarbonizing the marine sector. The project, the first of its kind in North America, will utilize PEM electrolyzers and ammonia synthesis technology to convert water and energy from wind farms into green hydrogen and ammonia. By 2025, the project is expected to produce 240,000 tonnes per annum of green ammonia, scaling up to 1 million tonnes per annum by 2026. The investment will support the development of critical marine and shore-side infrastructure at the Point Tupper terminal, facilitating green fuel handling and transportation. EverWind's CEO highlighted the importance of this investment in positioning Nova Scotia as a green energy hub and reducing emissions from the transportation sector, ultimately driving economic growth and creating job opportunities in the region.
