A business agreement ceremony held in Taean, South Chungcheong Province, marked the establishment of a carbon capture type hydrogen production base. The project aims to produce 1 ton of hydrogen per day while capturing 95% of carbon emissions. The construction of the hydrogen production base in Taean is part of efforts to transition away from coal-fired power plants towards clean energy solutions. By 2028, a substantial investment of 17 billion won will be made to build the production base on a 12,397㎡ land in Inpyeong-ri, Taean-eup. The hydrogen produced will be used for hydrogen cars, with the project planning to gradually increase production to 2 tons per day as part of the hydrogen city development project. Notably, over 95% of carbon dioxide generated during the hydrogen production process will be captured and utilized for plastic processing. The initiative is expected to support carbon neutrality goals, establish hydrogen charging stations, promote hydrogen mobility, reduce air pollutant emissions, boost the local economy, and create jobs. Local authorities emphasize the importance of creating a clean hydrogen ecosystem for energy conversion towards carbon neutrality. The project highlights the commitment of Chungnam Province and local stakeholders to drive the growth of the domestic hydrogen economy and position Taean as a hub for the hydrogen industry in South Korea.
