China has inaugurated its largest integrated solar-hydrogen farm in Rudong County, Jiangsu Province. The Rudong offshore photovoltaic-hydrogen energy storage project, owned by Guohua Energy Investment Co Ltd under CHN Energy Investment Group, covers 287 hectares and boasts a total installed capacity of 400 megawatts. This groundbreaking project integrates photovoltaic power generation, hydrogen production, hydrogen refueling, and energy storage, marking the beginning of China's comprehensive energy utilization and coastal ecological management. By utilizing advanced photovoltaic technology and intelligent control systems, the project aims to optimize energy conversion and storage efficiency. Through hydrogen production via water electrolysis, the overall energy utilization efficiency is enhanced, contributing to grid stability and peak-shaving capacity. The project, once fully operational in 2025, is projected to generate 468 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This energy output is equivalent to saving around 151,000 tonnes of standard coal each year and reducing emissions significantly, including carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide. These reductions not only benefit environmental protection efforts but also signify a crucial step towards a more sustainable energy structure in China. The Rudong project's innovative approach and utilization of coastal tidal flat resources showcase a pioneering stride in renewable energy and sustainable development in the region, setting a high standard for future energy projects.
