Czechia is making strides in the production of low-carbon hydrogen by announcing a new funding scheme from the Modernisation Fund to support hydrogen production from renewable sources. Environment Minister Petr Hladík emphasized the importance of hydrogen as an emission-free fuel of the future, highlighting its role in mitigating electricity surplus from wind and solar power plants. With three billion korunas allocated for new electrolysers, Czechia aims to produce 20,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually by 2030. The funding, particularly targeting regions like Ústí nad Labem, Karlovy Vary, and Moravian-Silesian impacted by coal mining decline, signifies a shift towards sustainable energy practices. Pilot projects for green hydrogen production are already underway, with SG Hydrogen Napajedla and Pražská plynárenská leading initiatives in the Zlín region and Prague-Michli, respectively. This strategic focus aligns with Czechia's commitment to embrace hydrogen as a key element in its energy transition, signaling a positive step towards a greener future.
