The Zero Emissions Ship Technology Association (ZESTAs) and Tanzania's Environment and Empowerment Movement (TEEMO) have joined forces to advance the development of green hydrogen shipping fuel in Tanzania. This partnership, formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), involves ZESTAs offering technical expertise and industry connections to support TEEMO's initiatives. In return, TEEMO will facilitate on-ground operations by engaging with various stakeholders, including government officials, the Tanzania Investment Centre, port authorities, shipowners, logistics stakeholders, and technical experts. The primary goal of this collaboration is to drive the growth of green hydrogen production, infrastructure, bunkering, and vessels in Tanzania, alongside the implementation of training programs. By capitalizing on Tanzania's renewable energy potential and strategic geographical location, the partners aim to contribute to global decarbonization efforts within the shipping industry. Madadh MacLaine, Secretary-General of ZESTAs, highlighted the significance of green hydrogen as an essential zero emissions and pollution-free fuel for the maritime sector. The collaboration with TEEMO intends to establish local expertise and infrastructure in Tanzania, accelerating the adoption of sustainable maritime technologies while promoting economic opportunities aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and global climate targets. Winfrida Shonde from TEEMO expressed enthusiasm about partnering with ZESTAs to introduce zero emissions solutions to Tanzania's maritime sector, emphasizing the initiative's alignment with environmental protection and community empowerment objectives. Furthermore, ZESTAs disclosed an additional partnership with a German organization specialized in hydrogen projects to enhance expertise and ensure successful project development in Tanzania, with a commitment to strict project timelines.
