The Indian government is taking significant steps to promote the use of green hydrogen in various sectors such as shipping, steel, and transportation. With an initial investment of Rs400 crore under the R&D scheme, pilot projects are being rolled out to facilitate the transition towards green hydrogen. The National Green Hydrogen Mission will drive these initiatives, focusing on replacing fossil fuels with green hydrogen in key industries. In the shipping sector, pilot projects will aim to enable ships to run on green hydrogen derivatives and establish refueling infrastructure in ports. Similarly, in the steel industry, the use of hydrogen in manufacturing processes will be explored to reduce reliance on fossil fuels gradually. The transport sector will see advancements in green hydrogen technologies for vehicles, including buses and trucks. By developing essential infrastructure like refueling stations, the government plans to create a sustainable green hydrogen ecosystem. These efforts are projected to drive down production costs and increase the adoption of green hydrogen over time, aligning with India's goals for energy transition and environmental sustainability.
