Danish renewable energy developer GreenGo Energy has reached an agreement with the Mauritanian government to develop a 6-gigawatt (GW) green hydrogen project near Nouakchott. The Megaton Moon Green Hydrogen Project, planned since 2023, will be executed in phases from 2029 to 2033. The initial phase, set for completion by 2029, will include electrolysis, wind, and solar capacities producing green ammonia. At full capacity, the project will integrate significant electrolysis, wind, and solar power. The Mauritanian Minister of Energy and Petroleum and GreenGo Energy CEO formalized the deal, emphasizing confidence in Mauritania's green hydrogen potential. GreenGo Energy will conduct feasibility studies and finance the project through a partnership model.
