India has embarked on an ambitious journey with the approval of the National Green Hydrogen Mission in January 2023, with an aim to transform the country into a global hub for Green Hydrogen production. The Mission targets a production capacity of 5 MMT per annum by 2030, supported by an outlay of ₹19,744 crore. The strategic components of the Mission include initiatives to drive demand through exports, incentives for the Green Hydrogen transition, pilot projects in key sectors, development of Green Hydrogen hubs, infrastructure support, regulatory frameworks, R&D programs, skill development, and public awareness campaigns. By leveraging investments of over ₹8 lakh crore, the Mission anticipates creating 600,000 jobs by 2030 and reducing fossil fuel imports by ₹1 lakh crore. Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted the potential of Green Hydrogen to revolutionize sectors like fertilizer production, steel manufacturing, and shipping, ultimately fostering a sustainable and self-reliant energy ecosystem in India.
