Mitsui & Co., Ltd., in collaboration with TA'ZIZ, Fertiglobe, and GS Energy Corporation, has embarked on the construction of an ammonia production facility in Al Ruwais, UAE. The project, scheduled to commence operations in 2027, aims to produce 1 million tons of ammonia annually while significantly reducing CO2 emissions compared to traditional methods. By incorporating CO2 capture and storage technologies, the facility plans to achieve cleaner production by 2030, contributing to the global decarbonization efforts. Mitsui's involvement extends beyond construction, as the company has signed a loan agreement with JBIC to finance the project. Additionally, Mitsui intends to distribute a portion of the clean ammonia produced to markets in Japan and other Asian countries. This move aligns with Mitsui's commitment to promoting sustainability and addressing the energy transition challenges.
