Congressional leaders including Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher, Congressman Troy Carter, and Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia have sent a letter urging the Biden administration to ensure that the Texas Gulf Coast hydrogen industry can fully benefit from the clean energy tax credit in the Inflation Reduction Act. The letter provides recommendations for the 45V Clean Hydrogen Production Tax Credit, including interregional transmission delivery, phased-in hourly matching, lower emission gas feedstock, and a midterm review procedure. The success of the Houston HyVelocity Hub, a collaborative effort working to advance the clean hydrogen ecosystem in Texas and along the Gulf Coast, is contingent on favorable final rules. These rules are crucial for incentivizing a robust emerging market for hydrogen, which is essential for decarbonizing industrial sectors with high hydrogen demand. Houston was selected as one of seven locations across the U.S. for a Regional Clean Hydrogen Hub in October 2023. The hub, involving non-profit research organizations, academic institutions, and leading energy companies, aims to accelerate the use of hydrogen as a clean energy resource.
