Five hydrogen production projects along the Norwegian coast have secured a share of over NOK 777 million in funding from Enova to develop a hydrogen fuel supply chain for the shipping industry. The projects, spanning from Slagentangen in the southeast to Bodø in the north, aim to make hydrogen more accessible for sustainable shipping investments. The Slagen Energy Hub project by GreenH, ExxonMobil, Grieg Edge, and North Ammonia will produce 20,000 tonnes of hydrogen and 100,000 tonnes of ammonia annually. Other projects include a 20MW plant in Egersund, a 20MW plant in Florø, as well as projects in Kristiansund and Bodø.
The Norwegian Climate and Environment Minister, Tore Sandvik, praised the projects for their potential to reduce emissions in Norway and drive the transition to sustainable shipping. Enova CEO, Nils Kristian Nakstad, highlighted the importance of these investments in making hydrogen more accessible. Additionally, Hexagon Purus, a leading provider of compressed hydrogen storage solutions, received significant investments to help facilitate the transition to zero-emission technology, particularly in maritime applications. The company aims to play a key role in cleaning up the maritime sector with its gaseous form of hydrogen energy carrier.
