The Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, inaugurated a fleet of green hydrogen buses by NTPC in Leh. The event was attended by senior officials from various ministries and NTPC. The Green Hydrogen Mobility Project in Leh includes a 1.7 MW solar plant, a hydrogen filling station with a capacity of 80 kg/day, and 5 hydrogen intra-city buses. These buses can cover 300 km per single filling of hydrogen, supporting energy efficiency in the region. This project, situated at an altitude of 3650 m MSL, is the world's highest altitude Green Hydrogen Mobility Project, showcasing its unique adaptability in challenging terrains and climates. The station is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 350 MT/year and contribute 230 MT/year of pure oxygen to the atmosphere. NTPC's initiative aligns with the country's goals of energy security and decarbonization through the adoption of hydrogen technologies. Ladakh's potential for green hydrogen mobility solutions is highlighted by its high solar irradiance and low temperatures, enabling efficient production and utilization of green fuel, making the region self-sufficient in terms of energy needs. NTPC is committed to expanding its hydrogen mobility projects nationwide and establishing a hydrogen hub in Andhra Pradesh, further promoting the growth of renewable energy infrastructure in India.
