OX2's Laine Offshore Wind Farm EIA Submission and Development in Finnish EEZ
Key Ideas
  • OX2 has completed an extensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Laine offshore wind farm project in the Finnish exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
  • The project includes offshore wind turbines, hydrogen production plants, submarine cables, and a hydrogen pipeline connecting to the mainland.
  • The EIA reports highlight minimal environmental impact due to the project's location and distance from sensitive areas.
  • Laine Offshore Wind Oy, a collaboration between OX2 and Ingka Investments, is spearheading the development of the wind farm in the Gulf of Bothnia.
OX2 has finished and submitted the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Laine offshore wind farm project in the Finnish exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The project will comprise offshore wind turbines, hydrogen production facilities, submarine cables, and a hydrogen pipeline linking to the mainland. The EIA, considered one of the most comprehensive in Finland, asserts that the Laine project will have minimal adverse effects on the environment due to its location in the Gulf of Bothnia and distance from sensitive areas. The Laine offshore wind farm, situated off Kokkola and Pietarsaari, is expected to host up to 150 turbines, generating around 11 TWh annually with a total capacity of 2,250 MW. Laine Offshore Wind Oy, owned by OX2 and Ingka Investments, is overseeing the project's development. OX2 is also working on two other wind farms, Halla and Tyrsky, in the same region. The project's aim is to contribute significantly to renewable energy production and reduce carbon emissions in Finland.
