Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) Green Hydrogen Hub project in Visakhapatnam. This project, a collaboration between NGEL and the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP), is set to be located in Pudimadaka, Anakapalle district. The Green Hydrogen Hub will be the first under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, aiming to produce 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. With an investment of approximately Rs1.85 lakh crore, the hub will include 20 GW of renewable energy projects and the production of 1,500 TPD of green hydrogen. Additionally, it will produce 7,500 TPD of green hydrogen derivatives for export markets, such as green methanol, green urea, and sustainable aviation fuel. Prime Minister Modi highlighted the hub's significance in promoting clean energy, generating employment, and establishing a manufacturing ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh. The project aligns with India's goal of achieving a non-fossil energy capacity of 500 GW by 2030. NGEL has already signed a joint venture agreement with NREDCAP for this venture. The hub in Visakhapatnam is part of India's commitment to clean energy and sustainable growth, with plans for two green hydrogen hubs in the initial phase. The initiative has received positive feedback, with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu lauding it as a step towards ensuring a sustainable future for the state.
