Swedish hydrogen fuel cell provider, PowerCell, has successfully secured a $3.8 million order for its Marine System 225 from an undisclosed European OEM manufacturer. The 14 additional units of the Marine System 225 are earmarked for installation on commercial cruise ships to provide auxiliary power to the vessels’ internal electrical systems, emphasizing a shift towards cleaner energy sources in the maritime industry. Since its launch in June 2024, the Marine System 225 has generated significant interest, with over 75 orders placed for delivery by the end of 2025. Furthermore, PowerCell recently inked a substantial deal worth $16 million for 56 units of the Marine System 225 with an Italian marine OEM manufacturer, further solidifying its position as a key player in providing sustainable fuel cell solutions for marine applications. The company's collaboration with RIX Industries to develop a methanol-to-power solution, integrating a methanol reformer with a fuel cell system, highlights its innovative approach to advancing clean energy technologies in the maritime sector.
