Scatec ASA, in partnership with ECHEM and MOPCO, has inked a significant agreement with Yara Clean Ammonia for the production of renewable ammonia in Egypt. The deal includes the development of 480 MW of renewable energy and a 240 MW electrolysis facility at MOPCO’s Damietta plant to generate 150,000 tons of renewable ammonia annually. The project receives financial backing from the European Investment Bank, showcasing support for renewable hydrogen initiatives in Egypt. This collaboration is lauded by Egypt's Minister of Petroleum for aligning with the country's low-carbon hydrogen strategy and fostering Egypt's role as a regional hydrogen hub. The initiative is set to usher in economic and industrial benefits, with a focus on boosting competitiveness and creating export avenues for renewable hydrogen. The partnership among Scatec, ECHEM, MOPCO, and Yara Clean Ammonia aims to bolster Egypt's position in the renewable ammonia sector, leveraging combined resources and expertise to drive the country's industrial and economic goals.
