The sHYps project, part of the Horizon Europe programme, has clinched the First Prize in the Innovation Category at the prestigious 2025 Waterborne Awards. Led by a consortium of 13 partners from across Europe, including experts in hydrogen technology like Ricardo, the project focuses on decarbonising the shipping industry. Ricardo's involvement spans from fuel cell specification to design, build, and testing, culminating in reaching a full power output of 393kw. Additionally, Ricardo is tasked with creating a containerised multi-megawatt power plant for passenger ships, aiming to combine the outputs of multiple fuel cell modules for under-deck installation. Expressing his satisfaction, Andy Ennever, Ricardo's Global Head of Fuel Cells, commends the recognition received by the sHYps project at the Waterborne Awards, attributing it to the dedication and expertise of the consortium teams and Ricardo members in driving the transition towards zero-emission shipping. The sHYps project, co-funded by the EU under Horizon Europe, involves members from 5 European countries and emphasizes sustainable hydrogen-powered shipping.
