RWE and TotalEnergies have formed a partnership to collaborate on the OranjeWind offshore wind project in the Netherlands. TotalEnergies will acquire a 50% equity stake in the wind farm from RWE. The project aims to integrate intermittent wind power generation with flexible energy demand, enhancing grid stability. With an installed capacity of 795 MW, OranjeWind in the North Sea is set to be a system integration project, supplying green electricity to one million Dutch households annually. The construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with full commissioning expected by early 2028. The partnership also focuses on implementing flexible demand solutions, such as electrolysers, smart charging for EVs, e-boilers, and battery storage, to address the challenges of renewable energy production. Additionally, the project will support offshore technologies by collaborating with startups to demonstrate innovative solutions like floating solar farms, LiDAR wind measurement, seabed battery systems, and pumped hydro-storage systems. Suppliers like Vestas, SiF, TKF, Jan De Nul, and TenneT have been chosen to provide components and installation services for the wind farm. The project aims to contribute to the Dutch energy system's transition and support decarbonisation efforts in the region. The OranjeWind project highlights the commitment of both companies to sustainable energy development and meeting environmental targets in the Netherlands.
