The project involves the production of up to 100,000 tons of green hydrogen annually using locally sourced renewable energy. The green hydrogen will be exported to Singapore through a subsea pipeline. This initiative is significant as it marks Indonesia's entrance into the green hydrogen market, with plans to become Southeast Asia's largest green hydrogen hub connecting Sumatra, the Riau Islands, and Singapore. The agreement follows a previous joint development study and will now proceed to the detailed engineering and commercial structuring phase. Concurrently, Sembcorp's subsidiary in India, Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India, is actively exploring opportunities for renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in India. The company is in discussions with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to establish a joint venture agreement, indicating a growing interest in green hydrogen initiatives across various regions.
