The Spanish Government has announced the selection of 16 projects for its hydrogen valley programme, part of the NextGenEU funds, totaling €1.2bn. The selected projects, which include major companies like Repsol, Moeve (formerly Cepsa), and bp, will play a crucial role in advancing green hydrogen production in Spain. These projects are required to have a minimum electrolyser capacity of 100MW, with a significant portion of green hydrogen output secured through pre-contract agreements. Some notable projects include Repsol's 100MW electrolyser in Cartagena and 150MW facility in Tarragona, Moeve's 400MW Andalusian Valley project, and bp's gH2 200MW plan in Castellón. Additionally, projects by Enagás, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, EDP, Iberdrola, Hyren Almonte, Forestal del Atlántico, Heidelberg Materials Hispania Cementos, Reolum, Solarig, Walia Energy, Capital Energy, and RIC Energy have also been selected. The government's decision to drop the proposal for a permanent windfall tax on energy firms has been welcomed by companies like Repsol and Moeve, who had threatened to halt their green hydrogen projects if the tax was extended permanently. This move has revived green hydrogen plans and will ensure the continuation of crucial projects in Spain's journey towards sustainable energy production.
