In a groundbreaking achievement, Obayashi Corporation, Halcyon Power Limited, and Fiji Gas have successfully carried out a demonstration project transporting green hydrogen from a geothermal source in New Zealand to Fiji for electricity generation. The project, supported by Japan's Ministry of the Environment, aimed to contribute to Japan's greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets. The green hydrogen, produced by Halcyon Power's hydrogen plant in Taupo, NZ, was transported to Fiji's Lautoka Port and used as fuel for a dual-fuel generator at Fiji Gas. This initiative not only demonstrated the feasibility of marine transport of green hydrogen but also highlighted the potential for international collaboration in promoting sustainable energy practices.
