TotalEnergies and Air Liquide have announced collaboration on green hydrogen projects in the Netherlands. These projects will focus on delivering green hydrogen, primarily produced by offshore wind power from the OranjeWind project, to decarbonize TotalEnergies' refineries in Northern Europe. The agreements aim to deliver around 45,000 tons of green hydrogen annually, contributing significantly to reducing CO2 emissions from refineries in Belgium and the Netherlands by up to 450,000 tons per year. To facilitate these initiatives, a joint venture, shared equally between TotalEnergies and Air Liquide, will be responsible for constructing and operating a 250 MW electrolyzer near the Zeeland refinery. This electrolyzer is projected to produce up to 30,000 tons of green hydrogen annually, with a significant portion allocated for the Zeeland platform, ultimately cutting emissions by 300,000 tons annually. With a planned commissioning in 2029, the project represents a substantial global investment of approximately $630 million and will seek support from European and national subsidy programs. Additionally, TotalEnergies will be part of Air Liquide's ELYgator electrolyzer project in Maasvlakte, where a tolling agreement for 130 MW will contribute to producing 15,000 tons of green hydrogen yearly for the TotalEnergies platform in Antwerp. This partnership is crucial in promoting European renewable energy targets and aiding in the decarbonization process of industrial assets. Both companies emphasize the importance of such projects in reducing emissions, particularly in challenging sectors like industry and heavy mobility, showcasing their commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
