HDF Energy, a developer of large-scale hydrogen infrastructure, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tunisian Ministry of Energy to initiate a significant green hydrogen production project in Tunisia. With an estimated investment of around 3 billion euros, this project will not only cater to the European market but also meet domestic needs. The initiative aligns with Tunisia's strategy to leverage its abundant solar and wind resources to become a key player in green hydrogen production. The project's first phase will include a massive green hydrogen facility capable of generating 1 GW of wind energy, 500 MW of photovoltaic energy, and 800 MW of electrolysers to produce up to 65,000 tonnes of hydrogen. This production is primarily targeted for export to Europe through the SoutH2 corridor, an initiative driven by European gas transmission operators. The collaboration emphasizes the involvement of local investors, communities, and various economic sectors in Tunisia, a country already recognized for its renewable energy and gas industries. By signing this MoU, Tunisia aims to attract investments that utilize its natural resources and current infrastructure to position itself as a major green hydrogen producer. The agreement also signifies a milestone in HDF Energy's expertise in developing large-scale hydrogen projects and contributes to global efforts in energy transition. The partnership is part of a series of MoUs signed with HDF Energy and other foreign companies, indicating a broader international interest in Tunisia's green hydrogen ambitions.
