The UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, announced significant progress towards a clean energy future in the UAE. Clean energy now makes up 27.83% of the country's energy mix, approaching the 32% target set for 2030. The UAE has aggressively expanded its renewable energy capacity, reaching 6.1 gigawatts by 2023 with investments exceeding AED 45 billion in projects like the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park and others. Al Mazrouei highlighted the country's global rankings in per capita energy consumption from renewable sources, moving from sixth to second place. The UAE is also focusing on green hydrogen production and carbon management, with ADNOC planning to expand its carbon capture capacity significantly by 2030, aiming for climate neutrality by 2045. The UAE is acknowledged for its leadership in hydrogen production competitiveness and market readiness. Additionally, new energy efficiency policies target a 33% reduction in industrial sector energy demand and a 32% enhancement in air quality by 2050. These policies aim to regulate the energy services market and encourage private sector investments in energy conservation projects. The upcoming World Utilities Congress 2024 in Abu Dhabi will further showcase the UAE's advancements in sustainability and water security, solidifying its position in global energy and water management.
