Uniper has entered a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Norwegian Hydrogen and Provaris to potentially source hydrogen from their export projects in the Nordics. The collaboration aims to enhance the development of hydrogen supply from the region to import hubs in northwestern Europe. Uniper will be supplied with RFNBO-compliant compressed gaseous hydrogen, delivered utilizing Provaris' GH2 carriers and storage barges. This initiative follows the extension of the partnership between Norwegian Hydrogen and Provaris in April 2024, focusing on accelerating the establishment of new hydrogen export sites with robust grid connections. The CEO of Norwegian Hydrogen, Jens Berge, expressed optimism about the partnership, highlighting Uniper as an ideal offtake partner to drive the joint projects forward. The recent approval by the German Government to import hydrogen aligns with Uniper's plans, as they aim to import significant amounts of green hydrogen by 2030, with a more extensive vision for hydrogen demand by 2045. Uniper's announcement to import 140,000 tonnes of hydrogen through a Danish pipeline further underscores the increasing momentum towards hydrogen utilization in the energy sector, paving the way for cleaner energy transition in the region.
