YamnaCo has entered into an agreement with the Port of Açu, located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to establish a green hydrogen-based ammonia project with an annual production target of one million tonnes. To achieve this output, the project will need 1.8GW of electrolysers. The company is set to take the Final Investment Decision (FID) by 2027, with production expected to commence in 2030. The collaborative effort between Yamna and the port authorities aims at ensuring the success of the project. The Port of Açu, known for handling a significant portion of Brazil's oil exports, is considered an ideal location for sustainable industry decarbonisation. Other companies, such as Fuella, have also secured contracts for ammonia projects at the port, highlighting the growing interest in green hydrogen initiatives in the region. This development aligns with Brazil's recent enactment of a low-carbon hydrogen bill, which provides substantial incentives and establishes a certification scheme for promoting the use of low-carbon hydrogen. The legislation signifies Brazil's commitment to fostering a green energy transition and creating a supportive environment for hydrogen-related projects.
