The Australian Labor government has announced a significant investment of $500 million into local manufacturing to ensure that locally made steel and aluminium are utilized in the production of renewable energy projects. This funding, part of the Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund, is set to support the manufacturing of wind towers, hydrogen electrolysers, and big batteries. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlighted the importance of using Australian steel in projects like wind towers and emphasized the need for ambitious local content requirements. This move aligns with the government's focus on promoting green technology and job creation in the clean energy sector. Additionally, the government introduced the Green Iron Investment Fund worth $1 billion to boost green iron manufacturing in the country. Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen, emphasized the opportunities for Australian manufacturers in the renewable energy investment boom and the importance of investing in local industry to drive the clean energy transition.
