Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), Mexico's state-owned utility, has strengthened its partnership with GenCell Energy by expanding its order of GenCell REX™ hydrogen-fueled backup power units to enhance the resilience of its substations. The project, initiated in December 2023, involves integrating GenCell's AI-driven energy management software, GenCell GEMS™, to provide climate-resilient, zero-emission backup power during grid outages. CFE has decided to exercise its option to double the initial order of units, aiming to increase backup duration from 8 to 24 hours and ensure uninterrupted power distribution across Mexico. The collaboration between CFE, GenCell, and GenCell Mexico focuses on optimizing substation operations, enhancing digitization and automation, and complying with regulatory standards. GenCell's backup solutions are designed to withstand extreme environmental conditions, operate without preheating in a wide temperature range, and require minimal maintenance. The deployment of GenCell's technology includes the implementation of a systematized operation protocol for coordination with monitoring centers to ensure grid reliability. Rami Reshef, the co-founder and CEO of GenCell Energy, expressed pride in the partnership's progress, highlighting the importance of climate-resilient backup power in sustaining critical operations. He emphasized the role of hydrogen technology in realizing a cleaner energy future for Mexico and praised CFE's commitment to substation resilience and grid modernization. GenCell's GreenFSG™ power solutions, based on alkaline fuel cells, offer a sustainable alternative to diesel backup power, supporting the transition to clean energy. GenCell Energy's ability to produce both clean power and the green fuel for its fuel cells positions the company as a comprehensive green energy provider. With deployments across 23 countries, GenCell's solutions cater to utilities, telecom, EV charging, and other mission-critical applications. The company's innovative approach and strategic collaboration with CFE demonstrate a significant step towards promoting sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure in North America.
