Charbone Hydrogen's Chief Operations Officer, Daniel Charette, announced a strategic partnership with ABB through a Memorandum of Understanding to revolutionize green hydrogen production in North America. The collaboration aims to establish 15 scalable hydrogen production facilities over the next five years, focusing on industries that heavily rely on grey hydrogen like steelmaking. ABB will be Charbone's preferred supplier for modular electrical substations, providing design, engineering, fabrication, and testing services to ensure energy efficiency and reliability. Additionally, ABB may assist in automation, electrification, and telecom roles as needed. The flagship project at Sorel-Tracy, Québec, set to be operational by Q2 2025, will utilize hydroelectric power for green hydrogen electrolysis. This facility will serve as a model for future sites, with the next project planned for the Detroit area, a significant automotive hub. These efforts align with Québec's Green Hydrogen and Bioenergy Strategy, targeting a substantial reduction in petroleum consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
