Clean Energy to Build State-of-the-Art Hydrogen Fueling Station for Riverside Transit Agency
Key Ideas
  • Clean Energy wins contract to design and construct a hydrogen fueling station for Riverside Transit Agency in California.
  • Riverside Transit Agency plans to operate over 100 hydrogen-powered buses, starting with five fuel cell buses when the station opens.
  • The new facility will support RTA's commitment to transitioning to a zero-emission vehicle fleet and addressing environmental concerns.
  • The project is part of a larger initiative to purchase hydrogen buses and transition the large bus fleet to zero-emissions vehicles by 2026.
Clean Energy has been awarded a contract to build a new state-of-the-art hydrogen fueling station for Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) in California. This station will support RTA's growing fleet of hydrogen-powered buses, with plans to operate over 100 buses in the next decade. The project, following a competitive solicitation, includes the design and construction of the fueling infrastructure, hydrogen supply, and maintenance services for the private access station in Riverside. RTA's decision to opt for hydrogen buses is driven by the need for clean alternatives to power their high-mileage transit routes efficiently. The partnership between Clean Energy and RTA reflects a commitment to transitioning to cleaner, low-emission technologies and serving the community sustainably. With the acquisition of a $5.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, RTA is set to purchase five hydrogen fuel cell electric buses, marking the beginning of the agency's phased transition to a zero-emission vehicle fleet starting in 2026. This initiative aligns with RTA's goal of fostering healthier communities through innovative clean energy solutions. The hydrogen station project is a critical milestone in achieving this goal and follows Clean Energy's successful completion of a similar project for Foothill Transit Agency in Pomona, CA, in June 2023.
