GASCADE Gastransport GmbH has achieved a significant milestone in the energy sector by commencing hydrogen filling for the initial segment of its Flow programme. This ambitious initiative aims to repurpose around 400 kilometers of existing natural gas pipelines into hydrogen transport infrastructure by 2025. The project is a crucial component of Germany's hydrogen network, intended to establish a hydrogen highway facilitating the efficient movement of hydrogen from north to south in the country. By leveraging the converted pipeline, GASCADE seeks to enhance the nation's hydrogen supply security and contribute to the energy transition. Upon completion, the pipeline is projected to handle up to 20 gigawatts of hydrogen transport, serving to connect production sites in northern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to consumers in southern Germany. GASCADE's Managing Directors, Christoph von dem Bussche and Ulrich Benterbusch, emphasize the demonstration of technological prowess and the strategic importance of the Flow programme for enabling quick and cost-effective hydrogen transport. The project launch aligns with Germany's efforts to bolster its hydrogen infrastructure, potentially benefiting industries reliant on hydrogen by ensuring a reliable supply and presenting new commercial prospects.
