Union Minister Pralhad Joshi recently visited an integrated renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh, focusing on supporting the steel, aluminium, and hydrogen industries. The project, located at Pinnapuram, is being developed by Greenco Group with a substantial investment of USD 4.2 billion. It comprises a pumped storage component accounting for USD 1.2 billion and USD 3 billion allocated for solar and wind generation infrastructure. The project includes 4,000 MW of solar energy, 1,000 MW of wind energy, and 1,680 MW of pumped hydropower generation. With a storage capacity of 10,080 MWh per day, the project aims to generate dispatchable, carbon-free energy to facilitate green steel, green aluminum, and green hydrogen production. Anil Chalamalasetty, the Group CEO and MD of Greenko, emphasized the project's significance in the global context, stating that the integration of solar, wind, and pumped storage power will play a crucial role in decarbonizing industries that are typically challenging to transition to sustainable practices. The initiative is seen as a vital step towards sustainable development and reducing carbon emissions on a global scale. Overall, the project represents a strategic move towards embracing renewable energy sources and fostering a more environmentally friendly approach in the industrial sector.
