Union Minister Joshi Explores Mega Renewable Energy Project in Andhra Pradesh
Key Ideas
  • Union Minister Pralhad Joshi visited a USD 4.2 billion integrated renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh designed to support steel, aluminum, and hydrogen industries.
  • The project includes 4,000 MW of solar, 1,000 MW of wind, and 1,680 MW of pumped hydropower generation with a storage capacity of 10,080 MWh per day.
  • Greenko Group is developing the facility, combining solar, wind, and pumped storage power, contributing to global decarbonization efforts in industries like green steel and green aluminum production.
  • Anil Chalamalasetty, the Group CEO and MD of Greenko, highlighted the project's role in providing dispatchable, carbon-free energy to aid in the decarbonization of hard-to-abate industries.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi recently visited the integrated renewable energy storage project in Pinnapuram, Andhra Pradesh, which is set to support steel, aluminum, and hydrogen industries. The project, with a total investment of USD 4.2 billion, involves USD 1.2 billion for the pumped storage component and USD 3 billion for solar and wind generation infrastructure. This mega project includes 4,000 MW of solar, 1,000 MW of wind, and 1,680 MW of pumped hydropower generation, providing a storage capacity of 10,080 MWh per day. The energy generated will be dispatchable and carbon-free, catering to industries like green steel, green aluminum, and green hydrogen production. Anil Chalamalasetty, the Group CEO and MD of Greenko, emphasized that the combination of solar, wind, and pumped storage power in this initiative will play a significant role in global decarbonization efforts, especially in hard-to-abate industries.
